Threads Rolls Out Spoiler-Hiding Feature to Protect TV and Movie Discussions
Smmoka.com May 26, 2025 Threads
Meta’s Threads app is introducing a new spoiler-hiding feature designed to let users conceal plot details in posts about TV shows, movies, books, and more. With this update, users can select any portion of text or images in their Threads post and mark it as a spoiler. Once published, the marked content appears blurred or covered by a grey overlay, and viewers must tap or click to reveal what’s hidden.
The feature, announced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Instagram head Adam Mosseri, aims to encourage open conversations about entertainment without the risk of ruining key moments for others. Shows like “The Last of Us” and “The White Lotus” have already generated lively discussions on Threads, demonstrating the need for a tool that allows fans to talk freely while protecting others from unwanted spoilers.
Threads’ spoiler tag is easy to use: while composing a post, users simply highlight the text or image they wish to hide and select the “mark spoiler” option. The feature works across both mobile and desktop, displaying blurred content as floating dots on mobile and a grey block on desktop.
This addition positions Threads as one of the few text-focused social platforms with a built-in spoiler function, offering a more seamless solution compared to similar features on platforms like Reddit. The rollout is currently in testing and being gradually expanded worldwide, with Meta gathering feedback to refine the experience before a full launch.
Beyond entertainment, the spoiler option can also be used to hide sensitive or potentially disturbing content, giving users more control over what they see in their feeds. This update is part of Threads’ ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and foster respectful, engaging conversations around trending topics and pop culture.
